Mike Henle age 55
Mike Henle, now 55, enjoys a day free of the threat of seizures during a recent outing on his quad at Cold Creek northwest of Las Vegas. He has been seizure-free since undergoing brain surgery more than 11 years ago at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, Calif.
From the time he was bitten by a mosquito at the age of nine months and infected with encephalitis, Mike Henle suffered from a seizure disorder for thiry-seven years---a chronic illness exacerbated by prescription drugs. He finally came under the treatment of a neurologist at Scripps Green Hospital in California and underwent brain surgery on December 6, 1994. After the surgery, Mike went through detoxification from prescription drugs such as phenobarbital. Now, ten years later, Mike's life has changed in dramatic and simple ways. He can drive a car and not worry about having grand-mal seizures; his thoughts are clear and uncluttered; his self-worth is elevated, as well as his relationships with family members. This book is an account of Mike's struggles with this disorder and his frustrations through the years of misdiagnoses and maltreatment.

Freelance writer Mike Henle began covering prep sports while in high school and worked as a sports reporter for Las Vegas newspapers for twenty years. He married his high school sweetheart, Carmen. The couple are proud parents of three fine young men and brag about their beautiful grandchildren.
